You May Be Surprised – Why Jell-O Is Served In Hospitals
Jello is what hospital patients get as a dessert with almost all their meals. This may be surprising for many who think that the jello dessert is given due to its bouncy texture and vivid colors. However, the appearance of the jello dessert is not the reason for being included as a regular hospital dessert.
It contains gelatin, which is highly beneficial and contains powerful properties, especially when it comes to accelerating the healing process. Gelatin is 99% protein, and it is rich in amino acids. It is made of animals, i.e., by boiling animal bones, skin, and cartilage.
This process helps extract the collagen, which is later processed to form gelatin. Since patients spend most of their time in the hospital bed, they feel pain in their joints and bones. Studies have shown that gelatin relieves osteoarthritis symptoms, i.e., joint pain and stiffness.
Researchers have also found that regular intake of the amino acid glycine, which is a jello component, can improve our sleep quality and provide more energy in the morning. This component also affects gut health by enhancing the integrity of the gut wall as well as brain activity by improving patients’ memory and attention.
The best way to consume jello is to have it homemade since ready-made jellos are rich in added sugars and colorings, which can negatively affect our health. This is how you make your own jello at home. The ingredients you need are:
- 3 tablespoons of gelatin powder
- 1 cup of green tea
- 1 cup of fresh-squeezed orange juice and
- 1 teaspoon of honey
First, prepare the green tea and add honey to it. Then, add the gelatin powder and stir until dissolved. Wait for the mixture to cool down, and then add the orange juice. Store the mixture in a fridge for three hours. After that, enjoy your dessert.
If you do not spend much time in the kitchen and do not fancy cooking, you can find other ways to consume gelatin. Gelatin/collagen supplement pills can be easily found in the shops, or gelatin/collagen powder, which you can consume with your smoothies.
Having concluded that gelatin is extremely beneficial for our body, especially in the process of healing, its intake is recommended.
